I always intended to get off my behind and do nosurf, but I kept pushing it back and back. About a week ago though I left a small part of my laptop charger at home by mistake (and moved back to where I am now; 3 hours away) so I was stuck without my laptop until today. I still have my smartphone and browsed occasionally but my phone’s broken so it’s a nightmare to do so.
Honestly this past week has been incredibly productive, it’s quite surprising. I’ve actually managed to start taking my studies seriously and I’ve been creating to-do lists and actually completing them. I’m starting to feel irritable if I don’t have some work in front of me to do (which, for the exam season is a blessing, but will obviously have to work on it after that) and I’ve read more in the past week than I have in the past year total.
I came back on my laptop today and already I realise how boring it is. I don’t wanna just scroll through reddit/imgur all day, so I turned it off about 10 mins later (until writing this post ;-)). The only thing I really enjoy on it is Spotify and I now try and use that less also.
Perhaps the strangest benefit from the past week is that (I study Czech & Russian FYI) my ability to actually understand these languages has skyrocketed fromwhere it was from before. I’m still a total beginner but without my constant laptop-distraction I can actually recognise genuine progress I’m making and actually seem to be learning.
Hopefully I won’t fall back onto the wagon now and I’d rather not, because honestly this is the first time since September that I’ve managed to actually sit down and take my uni work 100% seriously without being distracted so easily. If I keep up reduction of internet usage for another 3.5 weeks I’ll post back saying how it’s going 🙂
